The advantages of E-commerce are becoming so vast that any business not possessing an Internet presence is truly trailing behind the rest of the crowd. Unfortunately, there are still business owners out there who have not yet realized that Internet presence is more of a necessity today rather than a possibility. In order to stay competitive, most businesses must establish some means of doing business over the Internet in order to keep up with the trend in almost any industry. There are more than 100 million people that are regular Internet users, and it is estimated that perhaps one quarter of those are Internet shoppers. That is a huge market, and leaving it untapped would only show a serious lack of dedication on the part of any business owner. The advantages of e-commerce are much greater than simply the vast market share that is available. The cost to expenditure ratio of maintaining a successful e-commerce department of a business can be a fraction of maintaining any physical infrastructure. In fact, this is the underlying reason why many businesses are being created every year that only have online storefronts. The costs involved in a physical business are immense; there are facility, equipment, supply, and advertising costs just to name a few. If a business makes the transition to e-commerce and uses this as the sole method of selling their goods or services, they can save large amounts of money on many of those items.
Another advantage to being involved in E-commerce is that it gives your customers or clients a more convenient way to do business. The single biggest determining factor in a new business’s success or failure is the service that it offers its customers. When customers are surveyed, the number one reason they do not return to any one particular retailer of any product is the customer service they receive. Convenience and ease is part of good customer service, and when your customers feel as if they have the easy option of simply jumping online to order a product or check their account with your company, it can go a long way to ensuring them that you are dedicated to providing the best services possible. Another edge you gain over the competition by engaging in good e-commerce practices is that you widen your market place to a global playing field. When a business only operates out of physical brick and mortar locations they limit their brand recognition to the clients they can reach in their immediate area. A company with a strong Internet presence, however, can widen their brand recognition to span the entire globe with the right marketing campaign. This ability to reach worldwide can be one of the greatest assets to any company trying to grow its recognition and its place within a particular niche. The cost it would take to reach clients all over the globe by expanding your physical infrastructure would be immense. Even the cost of traveling sales reps can be much larger than the cost of a well established and well marketed Internet portal to your business. Any numbers that you look at regarding e-commerce are sure to grow as well. The market has done nothing but rise steadily over the last few years and, as we see growth in Internet use around the world, we will surely see continued growth in e-commerce as well.
